The Pivotal Point helps accelerate the goals of an innovation hub intent on creating a new territory of entrepreneurs.

Setting out to establish an entrepreneurship and innovation hub for the city of Whitehorse and Yukon on the whole, Yukon University and partner YukonStruct called on The Pivotal Point to develop an optimal governance structure. Their goal was to create a thriving, inclusive networked ecosystem for the territory, and develop a facility that would foster collaboration, facilitate skill development programming, and promote economic growth. With many public, civil and private sector organizations involved in the development of the hub, a high-performance governance process was needed to delineate the locus of fiduciary duty and accountability in accordance with Yukon incorporation legislation and set out a sustainable system of inclusion and engagement, while providing insight and guidance during the decision-making process.

Having knowledge of advisory board bylaws of related organizations, incubators and accelerators, The Pivotal Point focussed on developing a support structure to ensure their success.A roundtable discussion was hosted with key stakeholders to create alignment on vision and mission, and clarify stakeholder categories and roles. Further interviews with 20 stakeholders informed our report and also our recommendations for strengthening the board of directors with strategic additions in areas of representation and stakeholders.
